Muziek en globalisering

In de online editie van The Australian , het grootste nationale dagblad aldaar, een interview met musicoloog Huib Schippers (NL-vooruders, dat kan niet missen) :"Globalisation has led to many good things for music such that you can listen to any kind of music anywhere by downloading it from YouTube or listening to it on your iPod. But it is also a threat to a number of small musics that have been overrun," Schippers tells the HES. "Ideologues and moralists lack a sense of humour at the best of times, and the Vietnamese communists had repressed ca tru music for being decadent. But while the likes of tango and rai music have survived repression and thrived, ca tru remains on the verge of extinction. In 2006, the only singing masters left were grandmothers. Schippers is set to include ca tru in his worldwide project that will investigate why, in a globalised world, some music has adapted and grown in popularity while other valuable musical culture is in danger of being lost. The project aims to uncover the secrets of longevity for music types and come up with ways and initiatives to make threatened music more sustainable, whether it is ca tru in Vietnam or the music of indigenous Australians.
